Shasta Plays with a Stick

Shasta Plays with Stick

Shasta is so excited to play fetch that she often finds a stick that she can pick up and bring to be thrown. On one of her daily walks at the Bow Valley SPCA, she disappeared for a few seconds and then popped out of the trees with a stick. This girl is so smart and so much fun!

Hoarding is HORRIBLE

Sonya White, the Adoption Centre Manager at the Carla Cumming Sojonky Adoption Centre explains the circumstances for accepting three new cats.  A woman near Calgary was hoading cats and was ordered to relocate them.  Here is the story--in Sonya's own words.CJVolt

Kittens get New Furniture--a hammock at last!

Kittens Play in Hammock

Four black and white kittens are the beneficiary of the inventiveness of Ann Jorgensen, one of the Animal Cara Attendants at the Bow Valley SPCA.  Ann stated, "I have wanted to put up a hammock for years and I finally had the chance.  When all four of them got on it yesterday, it broke.  But it was easily fixed and seems like it will hold all of them, if they don't jump around too much."

Clearly the hammock is a great addition.  NOT as great as being adopted, but a nice diversion until they find their forever families.

Pets Stay Free at the Douglas Fir Resort & Chalets April 9th – 30th

Douglas Fir is a pet friendly hotel and a supporter of the Bow Valley SPCA.  They donate a portion of their pet fees to us.  We just heard about a great promotion for people visiting the Bow Valley in April.  This is a great opportunity for visitors to our area to bring their dogs along with no extra housing costs while reducing kennel fees and to bringing some extra enrichment to all of their lives.

Canadian Tire Hosts SPCA Dogs (and Volunteers)

Canmore Canadian Tire store manager, Adam Rhind, invited the Bow Valley SPCA into his store WITH DOGS.  The objective for the SPCA was to show off a couple of its dogs and to increase exposure to the the services we provide.  Canadian Tire was perfectly willing to allow cats as well, but the cats at the Carla Cumming Sojonky Adoption Centre tend to react to being moved and seem to be stressed.  Thus two dogs were there to represent our current residents (8 dogs and 28 cats).

Bow Valley SPCA Wins One of Six Awards from Humane Society International Canada

HSI/Canada has awarded the Bow Valley SPCA an award of $3000 for our efforts to protect stray and abandoned dogs and cats in the Bow Valley and beyond. The basis for the award was:

Hot Dogs--the kind you eat to help the kind you don't

On Sunday night, in conjunction with live entertainment in front of the Canmore Civic Centre, the Bow Valley SPCA gave away free hot dogs and chips and pop (all donated for the cause) to participants in the Canmore Winter Carnival.  Hungry attendees had the opportunity to give a donation to the SPCA in return for the great service and the tasty food.

Bow Valley Justice Film Festival

The Bow Valley SPCA volunteers participated in the Bow Valley Justice Film Festival by having a booth displaying our activities and our upcoming plans.  We were privileged to be asked to attend and represent to idea that justice and fairness should be extended to pets as well as people.

People attending the big weekend of entertainment in Canmore, the Canmore Winter Carnival, got a a bit extra from the Bow Valley SPCA.  Dogs that had been adopted from the Centre and two cats waiting for their forever home were stationed at Canmore Rotary Park and the nearby Mut Hut respectively.
