Long before a dog growls, snarls or bites, he shows many, many behaviors warning of the aggression. Assess-A-Pet -- An overview of the Assess-A-Pet temperament test. Recommend Bite-O-Meter as pre-requisite. (2--4 hours, video and/or shelter dog demo) This workshop will introduce all the mechanics and procedures of the Assess-A-Pet temperament test. Adopter expectations, better matchmaking, problem behaviors will be covered. Deadly Puppies, Deadly Dogs--A look at puppy behavior and temperament. Are puppies born clean slates? Are aggressive dogs born, made or both? What is normal puppy mouthing, what is aggressive mouthing? (2--4 hours long, video or shelter dog demo) An Ethogram of the Shelter Dog This workshop uses extensive video archives of dog behavior footage taken during Assess-A-Pet, and catalogs all the responses and common behavior patterns. This workshop is the basis for anyone who evaluates behavior and temperament in dogs, whether at the shelter or in private training consultations. Behaviors are broken down into small units, and multiple examples of each behavior are given, both in normal speed and in slow motion. Learning to read these subtle and small behaviors are the key to truly understanding and being able to observe dogs. (half day or full day workshop, works well as intro to Assess-A-Pet or Deadly Puppies, or Dog-Dog Behavior topics) Multiple Dog Households This workshop concentrates on dog-dog interactions and behaviors as it pertains to owners with more than one dog. Special considerations need to be taken for owners with more than one dog, or owners considering adding another dog to their household. Very often, dogs with difficulties interacting appropriately with other strange dogs are the youngest or newest members of multi-dog households. What might the reason for this be? In this workshop we will be detailing healthy dog-dog interactions, healthy play, risky interactions and risky play, common problems associated with having more than one dog, as well as solutions for treating these problems. (2-4 hours, video footage and/or live dog demos with owned dogs with problems or shelter dogs) For more information contact: |
