The Bow Valley SPCA has set up a new fund to help special needs dogs and cats.
The "Cinderella Fund" was established to provide special care for the animals that need it.
Several of the animals that come into the facility have medical issues that require surgery or behavior issues that need addressing before they can be adopted out.
Money from the fund is being used to help a Bull Mastiff named Belle to deal with her aggressiveness towards other dogs and a trainer is working with her to modify that behavior.
Mila, a sheppard mix, is being treated by a specialist in Calgary to fix problems with her eyes.
Jenn Rowley, the facility president, says they want to give all the dogs and cats in their facility a chance to find a forever home.
"In a different situation they may be euthanized, but here, since we're a no-kill, no-cage, we're prepared to put time and money into that situation to help those animals get healthy," said Rowley.
The Bow Valley SPCA has rescued 180 cats and dogs and adopted out 163 of those since the facility opened in June of 2007.
The Cinderella fund receives donations from the community, government and private donors.
A couple of anonymous donors have pledged to match all donations that are made to the fund.
