Did you know that in addition to rescuing and rehoming dogs and cats, the Bow Valley SPCA is also passionate about community outreach and education?

As part of our mission to "promote humane attitudes and practices towards animals throughout our community", we are so excited when we have the opportunity to send our volunteers to local classrooms or host Centre tours to engage with the next generation.

This fall our amazing volunteer conducted nine local classroom visits and two Girl Guide group tours, and had a blast interacting with the students in discussions about animals and their care. We got a lot of positive feedback from the teachers, helpers and students themselves. It seemed everyone really enjoyed themselves!

"We spent quite a while sharing stories and asking more questions after the presentation. Students had a good understanding about needs of animals and also what empathy means and how important it is."

"There was some post discussion at home about the SPCA - that was great! Some of them checked out the animals for adoption. I thought it created an opportunity to consider the treatment of animals and the responsibility we have to them when we decide to adopt/get a pet."

School visits are concluded for the year, but will resume in June 2024.
