About Poppy

We are pleased to announce that Poppy was adopted on May 20, 2026
Poppy certainly did her fair share of waiting for the right forever family to recognize her for the fantastic kitty‑companion she is. Born at the Bow Valley SPCA Adoption Centre and returning to the Shelter for nearly a year and a half more, she patiently held out hope that her moment would come. That moment arrived when one of our incredibly dedicated Cat‑Centric volunteers took her into foster care. Hearing how quickly she settled in, and how much joy, comfort, and easy companionship she brought to the home, we had a feeling Poppy might be headed toward the very best kind of foster outcome: a foster failure. Sure enough, after spending such meaningful time with this sweet girl, her foster simply couldn’t imagine bringing her back to the Centre or living without her quirky, affectionate presence in their home and heart. We’re absolutely thrilled for this lovely girl, who has finally found her forever person. Someone who embraces her exactly as she is. 🧡
Hi, I'm Poppy! I was actually born at the Bow Valley SPCA many years ago, and now I'm unfortunately back in their care. I developed urinary stones, which my previous owners were sadly unable to continue to care for. I recently had a successful surgery to remove the stones, and I'm feeling much better! I'll need to stay on a urinary diet for my life, to decrease the chance of them returning. Don't let my medical history stop you from coming to meet me though. I'm sweet, playful, and love cuddles! I'm very fond of wand toys, and have soft, bunny-like fur that makes me a pleasure to snuggle. I've really come out of my shell while at the Centre, and I'm optimistic I'll find a new great home that will be able to provide the care to keep me at my best! I can't wait to meet some great folks, head to a loving home, and catch up on some cuddles!

Dog-friendly: Untested, likely okay with slow introductions but may prefer a home without
Cat-friendly: Yes, but would prefer a home without
Kid-friendly: Yes
Do I Need Special Care?: Yes, I have a history of urinary stones, so I will need to stay on a urinary diet lifelong to prevent recurrences. I also have idiopathic cystitis, which is inflammation of the bladder without a definitive cause. The vets think that the stress of being in a shelter contributes to my inability to clear the chronic bladder inflammation. I am on an anti-anxiety medication to improve my symptoms. In a quiet home, the hope is that I can wean off this medication, and that outside the shelter environment where I am less stressed, my bladder inflammation may improve/resolve. I may need ongoing rechecks at the vet to monitor this condition.
