Education Committee Visits Alpenglow

The presentations started with the Grades 2/3 class, visited by a 7 1/2 week old Bull Mastiff mixed Breed, Bernadette. Remi an Animal Care Attendant @ BVSPCA and his partner Jessie are Bernadette's humans. The students learned the importance of teaching a dog early in his/her life how to socialize with all kinds of people and especially kids. The students were quiet, calm and let Bernadette visit them when she was comfortable. The class listened about the care of Bernadette while she played with toys and adventually feel asleep. She will return to visit as she grows. This will teach students the importance of training your puppy to make her a safe and happy dog to go out in the community. Bernadette then went for a short visit with Kindergarten kids and then went home for a much deserved nap.
Afternoon presentations to Grades 5/6, were visited by BVSPCA Educators, Dawna Evans, Roberta Richardson, and Pam Doyle. Pam's Pet Companion, Creed an 8 yr old male German Shepherd Cross was well received. Creed is the first successfully adopted dog from BVSPCA. This class learned the importance of having a well mannered dog and how to approach dogs safely. Discussion with Grades 3/4 included choosing the proper pet for your family's energy and lifestyle. Dawna Evans, taught Grade 1 students the necessities required for Pet Care and their function. The class also learned Love is not seen but the most important part of pet companionship. Creed taught all classes the importance of approaching a dog safely.
