National Volunteer Week 2025

We are excited to participate in a special recognition of the Bow Valley SPCA Volunteers - you! - during the 2025 National Volunteer Week (April 27-May 3). This year the theme is "Volunteers Make Waves"! The BVSPCA is blessed to have a pool of just over 200 volunteers, who contribute to the success of our Adoption Centre.
From January to mid-April of 2025 our volunteers contributed a total of 9,601 hours! These hours involved the selfless and generous giving of time in so many areas:
- The care of cats and dogs awaiting adoption, including baths and walks, cuddles and training, socializing and grooming.
- Our Fosters who took on the 24-7 care of some of our most vulnerable residents while they await their forever families.
- Our volunteers who shoveled when the snow fell, cleaned up the grounds when the snow melted, resolved maintenance concerns, and greeted visitors and fellow volunteers as they entered the Centre.
- Our out-reach team that spread awareness of responsible pet ownership and the BVSPCA while visiting schools or facilitating group tours of the Centre.
- All those who were hands on as we prepared our old and tired Shed Shop to be removed, assisted in the various aspects of our two day garage sale in early April, or supported our efforts with a bit of shopping.
- Our therapy dog team who provided in-need members of our community with the gentle interaction of canine companionship, while representing the BVSPCA and its mission.
- Our dedicated and hard working volunteer board, who guide our operation with kind, compassionate direction and support.
- To our fundraisers, for without our volunteers and the generous contribution of their time and skills, we would not be able to run these events.
- Our volunteers who stepped forward to assist with errands, including pickups of litter, food, and animal transport from vet clinics.
- And so much more!
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering dedication and compassion. Your kindness, patience, and hard work do not go unnoticed. You are the heart and soul of our organization. Your selfless contributions have made a profound difference in the lives of our shelter animals waiting for their forever homes.
Thanks to your efforts, we have been able to rescue and rehabilitate young, adult, and senior residents, and so far in 2025 we have seen 12 dogs and 28 cats find their furr-ever homes! Your commitment to ensuring the well-being of every animal is truly inspiring, and you have made waves both in the Centre and in the lives of our adopted animals and their new families. Thank you!
