"Our Journey with Mika"

A heart-warming adoption story update!
When Mika (formerly Abbey at the SPCA) first caught her adopters’ eye on the website, her moonlit grey coat and quiet grace hinted at a gentle soul beneath her shy exterior. But Mika was feral—having spent over a year tucked under a blanket, avoiding human contact. With patience, love, and a little help from SPCA volunteer Derek (who earned her trust one treat at a time), Mika began to show glimpses of the affectionate cat she could become. Her future family saw that spark and decided they wanted to give her a chance.
Fast forward five months, and Mika is now a confident, cuddly couch queen! She’s bonded beautifully with her feline sister, Paisley, and delights in chin scratches, squid plushies, and nighttime zoomies.
“There’s a common misconception when people hear the word, “feral.” One quickly thinks wild, vicious and untamable, but that isn’t always the case. Cats like Mika just haven’t been given the opportunity to feel loved in a secure environment. They’ve been so busy protecting themselves and trying to survive they haven’t been able to just be themselves. Mika has the sweetest heart and watching her grow more confident and trusting has been a profound joy for our family”

Big paws full of thanks to our incredible BVSPCA Cat Centric team volunteers, who spend time with our feral residents and gently show them that human presence can be a positive thing! Special shoutout to Cat Centric team lead and volunteer, Derek. His patience and dedication played a huge role in helping Mika find her forever family.
