About Myrtle
We are pleased to announce that Myrtle was adopted on Oct. 10, 2024
Hi there, I'm Myrtle! I've been in the care of the BVSPCA for a couple months now, but I've endured a medical journey to get to be happy, healthy, and adoptable; but I'm happy to report that I've made it through to the other side! I arrived from a hoarding situation, and unfortunately my teeth had not been taken care of over my life, resulting in multiple teeth with significant decay. The decay was so severe that it caused bone loss in my lower jaw, leaving me in tremendous amounts of pain. Thankfully, the folks at the SPCA were able to get all my decayed and infected teeth removed, and after a course of medication, I'm good as new - minus some teeth that is, but I'm so much happier without them! Once the painful teeth were removed, my true personality flourished, and I discovered just how much I LOVE affection from people! I will rub up all over you demanding pets and scratches, and might even happy-drool on you. I can't help it, as I don't have as many teeth in my mouth to keep the saliva contained! It's been a journey, but I'm excited to finally start the next chapter of my life in a loving forever home that will treasure and pamper me. I deserve it!
Dog-friendly: Untested, may be okay with slow introductions
Cat-friendly: Can become jealous of other cats receiving affection, but has lived with cats in the past
Kid-friendly: Yes
Do I Need Special Care?: No. The decay in my teeth (which have been extracted) caused Reactive Woven Bone Formation which was diagnosed with x-rays and a biopsy. Removal of the teeth is considered curative, but future x-rays (every 6 months to a year) to monitor the reformation of the bone would be the gold standard of care. However, if no pain is noted, I am considered healthy with no need for future testing. I do not require any medication or special care, and am able to eat, drink, and live a completely normal life!
