About Joey

We are pleased to announce that Joey was adopted on March 11, 2026
Joey arrived to us as a shut down puppy, terrified of the big wide world and lacking confidence. We knew, given her young age, that she would do best with a dedicated foster home, and she lucked out with an amazing one! Thanks to her foster’s patient approach and gentle care, Joey started showing her playful side and caught the eye of an adopter who was experienced with timid rescue pups. Joey may have arrived very shy, but with her new doggie big sister Juneau leading the way, this girl is blossoming! She follows Juneau like a tiny shadow, learning all the best tricks… including how to get into just the right amount of puppy mischief (stealing gloves is her current favourite trick). We’re so excited to see her becoming braver by the day, and know she has many years of adventuring in her future!
Hi there! My name is Joey (like a baby kangaroo). I'm a very sweet, very shy young pup who is still learning how to feel safe in a big, unfamiliar world. When I first arrived at the Centre, I relied heavily on my brother, Roo, for comfort and confidence. Once I moved into my foster home on my own, it became clear that I'm still very timid and under socialized and still figuring out how to trust people and new experiences. I feel most comfortable when people are sitting or crouched down. When they are, I can relax enough to show my playful side. I love chasing a ball, chewing on my toys, and bouncing around. I'm slowly starting to enjoy the outdoors, but I'm not yet confident walking on a leash or exploring far from the safety of my foster home. I'm looking for a family who understands that I will need a lot of time, patience, and gentle consistency. I need people who will move at my pace, celebrate small steps, and help me learn that the world isn't so scary, and that people are safe, even when they're standing tall! With the right support, I know I can blossom into the loving, joyful companion I'm meant to be.
