About Hoss

Hey there, I'm Hoss! I'm a sweet and friendly Husky looking for a loving new home. I was surrendered due to having a high prey drive for chickens and other farm animals, and my previous home lived too nearby to those tempting creatures. They're just way too much fun to chase and play with, I can't help myself, it's in my instincts! For that reason, I am looking for a non-acreage home (or one with no farm animals nearby) with no cats or other small animals, where I won't have to be constantly tempted. Dog friends are okay though, and I've enjoyed romping around with my canine companions. Despite my affinity for small animals, I really am a very good boy with great manners. I am polite indoors, am an absolute loose-leash walking angel on leash (unless I see a squirrel or rabbit that is... although I tend to keep my cool while on leash and am easily redirected), and know my basic commands. I have a great recall, although my stubborn side can emerge if I'm having fun outside and aren't ready to come in yet! I am a dog made for the outdoors, and you couldn't find a better suited dog for the Bow Valley, so I would love to go on lots of Rocky Mountain adventuring. Hiking and biking sound fun to me, and I'd love to try out skijoring this winter, I think I'd be a pro! My previous home reports that I am crate trained (and will happily snooze through the night in my kennel), am a sweet and gentle boy with children, love to play fetch and with squeaky toys, and am a silly boy that will be a joy for a family that has time to get his energy out with walks and adventures. I do have a husky voice, so I'd be best suited to a single-dwelling home where I won't my songs won't bother the neighbours. A fun fact about me is that I was brought to the shelter with a big boulder that I have apparently had since puppy-hood. The staff affectionately refer to my boulder as my "emotional support rock" because I get a bit worried when I am without it. I love to play with my boulder, pouncing at it and barking - it's a really goofy game that will certainly bring a smile to my face! As long as you don't have any tasty snacks - *ahem* - I mean, small animals, in your home, I really am the best dog! If you'd like to give me (and my pet rock) a great home, get in touch with the humans at the shelter to meet me!
