About Maya

We are pleased to announce that Maya was adopted on May 18, 2023
After being in foster for a number of months working through various behavioural challenges, Maya's foster made it official - turns out she was home all along! With a BVSPCA Alumni doggie as her sister, and a very committed and wonderful person to care for her, Maya couldn't be in a better place. We're so happy for this sweet girl who's been through so much, to finally have a stable and loving home for the rest of her days. Enjoy this next chapter of your life sweet girl!
I am in a foster home but I am still AVAILABLE for adoption!

My name is Maya (previously Maddy, but my foster felt that Maya suited me better)! I'm keeping my backstory a mystery, but it's time to focus on myself anyways! I want all the cuddles, love and walks a girl can get. I am living in a foster home for the time being, as the shelter is full and I wanted some extra attention. I am a fairly calm and quiet lady, but I'll let out a bark here and there, especially to tell you it's time for supper. I am curious about things in the house, but I am not destructive, am housetrained, and am content to be left alone as long as I have a bed to cozy up in and my favourite teddy. I am learning what a leash is and I am getting the hang of walking on one, but I need someone who is willing to continue to help with this endeavor. I am awesome at dog parks and love a good run around! Food has been scarce for me, so my new humans should be prepared to help me navigate my insecurity and protectiveness around food for the first while until I feel safe. I will need an adult-only home or with respectful dog-savvy kids aged 12+ due to my protectiveness around food and I get a little nervous when new people enter the house. I didn't know what to do with toys when I first arrived, but now I love my toys! I am eager to learn some commands and I already have "sit" all figured out. I love humans, and follow my foster all around the house, preferring to keep her in sight. I live with a foster sister currently, and I copy her a lot and she's teaching me how to "dog." A laid-back, patient dog friend would definitely be beneficial for me to feel more secure. While I don't mind friends of the canine variety, cats aren't going to be for me. It's either they don't like me or I don't like them, and we haven't been able to find mutual grounds (I've recently managed to be-friend the one I reside with, but it was touch and go for a while)! I am excited to get out into the Rocky Mountain lifestyle with some loving people!
